Description
Boskanter, in the Flemish Ardenes, is a permaculture farm that offers people the opportunity to taste a simple and regenerative life in connection with nature. There are a lot of opportunities to explore crafts, gardening, food processing, cooking and reconstruction work. With our project, we hope to broaden the scope of alternatives, reduce fear and create hope and courage to consider the radical changes that need to be made in the world, rather than to criticize the current system and people trapped in it. This summer, we gather a team of helpers to reconstruct the house and help with the summer work. You will work with cob plaster, build a light straw-clay wall and wood-wool insulation. We will also harvest and process tomatoes and cucumbers, plumbs, apples and grapes, organise one or two pizza parties and make a hike to visit some other interesting projects in the area.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will share several rooms with mattresses and beds. There is one outdoor shower with sun-heated water and a wood-fired sauna that we heat weekly if it'snot too warm. We use compost toilets. We will cook together with local products. The food will be as much as possible local, organic, seasonal, vegetarian with little use of dairy and home-processed. To visit projects in the surrounding, we will use bikes or walk and we will sleep in tents. Transport should be by 'green' (car or bus), unless, after negotiation, that's really not realistic.
Training during the activity
We will teach you the skills needed for the jobs we will do. You will have the opportunity to learn to harvest, make and use natural cob, scything, carving spoons, making ropes or baskets, bake sourdough bread and pizzas, ... Dirk can give you an introduction in the function of the rocket stove. We can probably not do all, so will depend on your interests.
