Language Bridges for youth empowerment

COMMUNE DE DIJON

ASSOCIATIA EIVA - ARAD

ARAD, Romania

Description

The assignment will take place at the Asocieta EIVA in Arad Romania. The activity is community-based and hands-on: volunteers prepare and facilitate workshops, games, storytelling and creative sessions with local partners, support adapted activities for children with disabilities alongside CSEI specialists, take part in environmental actions in the Natural Park Lunca Mureșului, and present European opportunities to high-school students. They co-design the sessions with EIVA staff and partner educators, and over the stay each volunteer develops a personal project of their own.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

A room in one of EIVA's two furnished apartments in Arad: individual bedroom, shared kitchen and bathroom, internet, utilities included; EIVA confirms which apartment each volunteer gets before arrival.

Tram or bus pass or tickets reimbursed for travel to the partner venues; pick-up by car from the airport on arrival.

An information pack with the apartments, the city and daily life in Arad is sent together with this offer.

Training during the activity

Participants take part in 1 or 2 days of pre-departure preparation at the youth service with the team of association Léo Lagrange in Dijon.

Participant profile

The activity suits volunteers aged 18–30 who want to work with children and young people, including children with disabilities and children from vulnerable families; no diploma or prior experience is required. What matters is motivation, reliability, openness to a multicultural team and a working level of English. Interest in non-formal education, the environment or civic participation helps, and French is directly useful in the storytelling and language sessions.

In the first weeks each volunteer agrees a personal development plan with the mentor; it sets learning goals that are reviewed in mentoring sessions and in a short monthly activity report. Competences developed over the stay:

  • facilitation and non-formal education methods (CEMEA socio-educational animation, Compass, Démocratie et Courage)
  • communication with children with special needs, including the SpeakUp for Yourself app
  • green competences and environmental education practice
  • digital content creation and campaign communication
  • intercultural, language (Romanian course and Online Language Support) and teamwork skills
  • project management, through the personal project
