The power of together

SPJ La Tramontane

La Maison Heureuse/La Tramontane

Sprimont, Belgium

Description

Supervision and accompaniment of children placed in a home by the authorities. The children can be quite traumatised by the circumstances that led to them being put in a home and may have behavioural problems. Accompanying children in a children's home in their daily lives : getting them ready for school, help with homework, playing games, sports, accompanying them to activities, putting them to bed, reading stories, just being there with them. There is also scope for creative and leisure activities, days out in town, etc.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will have their own room in the institution and share a bathroom with two or three children. They can eat with the staff and children but can also cook for themselves sometimes. No transport is necessary for the daily tasks, but exceptional costs will be covered by the project.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will be supervised by the director, Jacqueline Dubois, and the one of the team leaders, Carole. As there is no prior training necessary, there is constant collaboration with the team members. The volunteer will also be mentored by a member of the support organisation, SPJ, during seminars and visits.
