Description
Centrum Usług Społecznych w Swarzędzu is a governmental organisation at a local level. Was established in 1990. Since 2007 we are the host and lead organisation - first in the Youth in Action programme, next in EVS and now in the European Solidarity Corps programme. During 16 projects, in total we had 18 volunteers from all over Europe. Now we are looking for a new volunteer for a 10 month activity in Swarzędz Poland in the term from October 2024 to the end of July 2025. Most of the volunteer's tasks are realized in two youth centers - specialist centers for children from families experiencing different social problems (addictions, unemployment, educational difficulties) and in three senior centers for people at the age of 60 and older. A volunteer helps staff to organize various activities for children and seniors, i.a.: language teaching, doing homework, preparing the multimedia presentations about culture of volunteer's homeland, handicraft or intelectual activities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Our volunteer lives at the dormitory of Poznań University of Technology and stays together with Polish and international students. From Monday to Friday a volunteer comes to work to Swarzędz (it takes around 35 minutes by bus). First days after arrival are devoted on knowing how things work: shopping, explore surrounding area, learning to use public transport, visiting office. We provide public transport tickets, pocket money, food allowance, money for travel from home to Poznań and from Poznań to home, Polish language course at the university, monthly top-up the phone, assistance of a mentor.
Training during the activity
Working languages are Polish (as the main) and English. We provide a professional Polish language course at Adam Mickiewicz University. Actions taken in project are focused on gaining new skills and competences related to working with children and seniors, learning a foreign language, personal budget management and using of leisure time. During the stay in Poland a volunteer takes part in the Occupational Health and Safety Training at the work place, On-Arrival Training and Mid-Term Meeting (organized by the National Agency). At the end of the project volunteer gets the Youthpass certificate.
Participant profile
We invite to cooperation an English speaking participants of the European Solidarity Corps at the age from 18 to 30 years. We would like to work with an open-minded person who likes people, is not afraid of work with children and seniors and wants to give them good, joy and something interesting. A volunteer must be available for 10 months due to the time limit set by Centrum Usług Społecznych (304 days of the mobility, the most common end date for the activity is early August of the following year) and follow the terms of the volunteering agreement.
