Join us in Sicily for a unique volunteering experience at Mistero Buffo, a place where creativity meets social and environmental impact! Circolo Arci Babilonia, through the Youth Cultural Center "Mistero Buffo," is a hub of culture and youth engagement in Acireale. Run by young volunteers, we promote culture, creativity, and environmental sustainability in our community. Our center is a safe space open to everyone, but we attract mostly young people (20-30 yo) or older, depending on the event. As a volunteer, you will participate in artistic workshops, cultural events, jam sessions, and initiatives supporting social inclusion and environmental education with Legambiente, a partner association. You'll play a key role in managing the center, organizing events from music to art, and cinema, in partnership with Scarti and the "Magma Film Festival." Plus, you'll have the chance to propose and develop your own project in a relaxed, cooperative, and self-managed environment.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The two volunteers will stay in a comfortable shared apartment located in the historical center of Acireale. The apartment offers a cozy double room and is equipped with all the necessary common facilities (kitchen, washing machine, shared bathroom...). You will be just a few steps away from the Mistero Buffo center. Additionally, the apartment is only a 25-minute walk from the Acireale train station, providing access to public transportation. As for meals, the volunteers will manage their own food and will be reimbursed with a pocket money.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in two trainings organized by the Italian National Youth Agency: on-arrival training and mid-term evaluation. At the beginning of the project, volunteers will receive mentorship on their basic tasks at the center and will be shown around by local volunteers to help them explore and settle in as smoothly as possible, in an environment marked by friendship. The receiving organization also provides regular evaluation meetings with other volunteers at Mistero Buffo, ensuring that your experience is both educational and enriching in every aspect.
Participant profile
We are excited to welcome volunteers who are ready to take on the challenges of a dynamic and continuously growing small center. We are looking for creative and independent individuals with strong initiative and the ability to work autonomously. These qualities are essential for making an effective contribution to our project and making a difference within our community. You should be ready to manage the space calmly and constructively, ensuring a positive and collaborative atmosphere, and to interact mostly with young people of your age (20-30), while remaining flexible and adaptable. If you have experience in organizing activities within NGOs or in the creative, environmental, or cultural sectors, this will certainly be an advantage in making the most of this experience. However, having such experience is not required for selection. What matters most to us is your personal motivation, your desire to actively contribute to our project, and how this experience aligns with your life goals, past experiences, and future plans. Acireale, the city that will host the project, is a town of about 50,000 inhabitants, located on the eastern coast of Sicily, just a short distance from Catania. This setting provides the perfect blend of the tranquility of a medium-sized town and the proximity to a larger city like Catania, which offers many kinds of different activities. Acireale itself may not be a major cultural hub, but the scenery is continually evolving with new initiatives and curious young people. Volunteers should be prepared to engage with the local youth and address the challenges of maintaining consistency and reaching out to a broader audience.
