Description

MdM started working in Sierra Leone in 2002 (in Koinadugu since 2006). Since then, more than 30 projects have been developed with the financial support of over 10million€ from various donors. Main tasks: To contribute to supervising the different Primary Healthcare Units in the district in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Infection, prevention, control aspects. To design & develop trainings to health workers from public health structures, community health workers & traditional birth attendants according to the needs. To collaborate in the identification of needs of equipment in the public health centre. To work closely with MdM Health Adviser, identify aspects for capacity building and to support with his/her capacity strengthening. To support with the supervision of a pilot project, which includes portable ultrasound. To observe the Maternal & Child health services, provided in the Kabala Gov. Hospital, including the Maternity Ward and identify aspects for improvement.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Koinadugu is a rural context and the living conditions in Kabala are the usual ones in this kind of environment. Basic services are not easily accessible (water is provided from a well, electricity is available through the use of generators or solar systems). The speed of internet is limited, but the connection is stable. The volunteer will regularly receive information, guidance, support, & materials and transportation necessary for performing the functions assigned to them. You will receive a monthly subsistence allowance of 487€ to cover basic needs and local transport.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will improve their professional knowledge through training in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, psychosocial support and will be provided with training resources to continue their learning. Those selected will receive briefings/training at MdM headquarters in Madrid with the different departments related to the mission and the position, as well as mandatory online training on environmental issues before they start their field work. Training sessions will take place both in the countries of the support organisations and in of the host organisations. 

Participant profile

-University education in Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics, International Cooperation, Development and/or Humanitarian Action; -Experience or additional training in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, with a gender and human rights approach, Knowledge of the African context; - Good command of the Office package, data management tools, use of digital platforms; - Knowledge of human rights, gender, public health, sexual and reproductive health; - Fluent in English; - Ability to work independently; - Capacity of facilitating workshops, trainings; Eligibility : Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
