BE THE CHANGE: Support displaced Ukrainian people in Sofia, Bulgaria

Foundation "Situational Center Open Doors"

Sofia, Bulgaria

Description

The Foundation "Situational Center Open Doors" (FSCOD) seeks enthusiastic volunteers to support the integration and empowerment of displaced people from Ukraine in Sofia, Bulgaria. Starting in 2024, volunteers will assist in educational, psychological, and cultural activities aimed at promoting social inclusion and self-sufficiency. The roles can include activities like supporting educational programs, organising community events, and helping run the business incubator for displaced entrepreneurs. Volunteers will also engage in creative activities and facilitate intercultural dialogue between displaced people and the local community.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will stay in a fully furnished shared apartment located close to the FSCOD centre, with each volunteer having a private room and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Monthly allowances will cover food, pocket money, and local transportation. The accommodation is in a safe and accessible area of Sofia, allowing volunteers to explore the city and its rich cultural heritage. Travel expenses to and from Bulgaria will also be reimbursed according to program guidelines.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will participate in on-arrival training provided by the Bulgarian National Agency, which includes an introduction to the goals and activities of FSCOD. Additional training will focus on event management, non-violent communication, and cultural sensitivity. Volunteers will receive ongoing mentorship and support throughout their time at FSCOD, with regular team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and access to digital resources to help them succeed in their roles.

We are looking for motivated individuals aged 18-30 who are passionate about social inclusion, cultural exchange, and community engagement. Ideal candidates will have strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, an interest in the refugee sector, and a passion for working with children and youth in informal and non-formal education activities.
