G.A.I.N. - Games for Advancement and Inclusion

ASSOCIAZIONE LINK APS

Altamura, Italy

Description

G.A.I.N. is a volunteering team project aimed at building community games to enrich the Agorateca community library, located in the suburbs of Altamura. The Agorateca is a space managed by the Link association and was built to create a cultural stronghold and a space for community life in the outskirts of the city of Altamura, South Italy. The project will consist of manual work to build wooden games, conceived and designed by the participants themselves. The games will finally be presented to the local community at a closing event of the project, just before the Christmas holidays.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The group of volunteers will be hosted in the city of Altamura, where the host association Link is based, in double or triplet rooms, inside a flat that they will share with the other volunteers. The volunteers will be responsible manage the house following the rules. Volunteers will move by walking from the apartment to the activity space. Each volunteer will be entitled to pocket money following ESC rules and they will have to provide their own meals.

Training during the activity

The hosting organisation provides support and training in the area of social animation, intercultural education, anti-discrimination education, communication and non-formal methodology. A basic Italian course will be provided participants so that they can manage their life in the city and the activities with the locals. Precisely for this project, volunteers will be given guidelines to work and cooperate with people with special needs. They will be supervised by a reference figure who will introduce them to the basic non formal methods with the aim to plan games and activities.

Participant profile

We are looking for motivated participants, possibly (but not necessarily) passionate about board games, ready to perform manual tasks and overcome new challenges. It is possible to join also if you already did a long-term ESC project.
