Tagesgruppe Wellenreiter: volunteers wanted

Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Niedersachsen e.V.

Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft für Paritätische Sozialarbeit mbH

Wilhelmshaven, Germany

Description

At the facility „Wellenreiter” children and their parents find support developing a positive family life. Ten boys and girls aged six to twelve are arriving after school and stay until 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays, the pedagogical staff is available for the families for training and discussions. The goals include promotion of the child‘s personality development, the parenting skills, the social competences of all family members and strengthening the family to cope with everyday life. Your task is to assist professionals along daily activities and individual support measures. You motivate kids to participate in activities, provide help with homework, and promote individual and group-based activities. You have the opportunity to initiate projects and leisure time activities according to the kids and your own interests – you are very welcome to bring in your own ideas! Household tasks include preparing the group room and preparing meals.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

There will be a group of seven international volunteers to spend a year at the GPS. You will live in one of three shared flats. A German volunteer will be your companion to show you ways how to spend your free time in and around Wilhelmshaven: cultural events, theatre, museums, the beach or whatever you are interested in. Together you‘ll receive tickets for public transportation to explore the region and nearby cities like Bremen or Hamburg. We will pay you a monthly allowance of 217€ and a food allowance of 313€, show you nearby supermarkets and important places to go upon arrival.

Training during the activity

At your workplace a qualified and experienced practical instructor will be your continuous professional guide responsible for induction and integration into the group's daily routine. A personal mentor from our Department of Voluntary Services will be your contact person and regularly stay in exchange with you. She/he is responsible for the pedagogical accompaniment and for your questions and needs. Additionally you will be part of our educational seminars together with a group of German volunteers and attend German lessons. At the end of your activity you will get a YouthPass-Certificate.
