Description

The JRS International Office Advocacy Unit focuses on empowering forcibly displaced people to claim their rights and advocating for sustainable solutions. As a volunteer, you will collaborate closely with the head of the Advocacy Unit, assisting in updating the Advocacy Unit’s capacity-building materials and helping to organize meetings and workshops to advance JRS’s global advocacy strategy. This volunteer experience offers the chance to engage in a multicultural environment, contributing to the mission of supporting and advocating for refugees and displaced people worldwide. JRS International Office offers 1 place for a Volunteer Service of 10 months in its ADVOCACY UNIT in Rome, Italy. Candidates can apply at any time and are accepted on a rolling basis over the next 2 years, starting from the 21st of January, 2025.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

JRS-Europe, the supporting organization, pays volunteers pocket money and reimburses apartment rent costs, daily allowances for food and local transport on real cost basis. The eligible maximum amounts are determined by the EU Solidarity Corps Guide 2024. The volunteer is asked to look for an apartment or co-location. JRS International Office will support volunteers in their accomodation search.

Training during the activity

Under the supervision of the head of the Advocacy Unit, the volunteer will learn about all aspects of advocacy of an International Not-for-Profit-Association: -Develop skills in creating, revising, and presenting training materials on advocacy and incorporating diverse media formats and tools. -Gain experience in drafting professional communications and reports. -Build coordination and communication abilities. -Strengthen research and analytical skills -Enhance knowledge of socio-political and cultural factors affecting advocacy -Participate actively in community engagement

Participant profile

• Between 18 and 29 years old (signing the volunteer agreement before your 30th birthday) • Based in Belgium at the moment of the application • Ability to speak and write in English (working language is English); other European languages are welcome • Knowledge of E-learning contents production is an asset. • Studies in the refugee field • Developed organisational skills with a sense of initiative • Flexibility and ability to collaborate in a multicultural team • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 is an asset. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
