ActionAid International Kenya (AAIK) is a non-partisan, non-religious development organization that has been working in Kenya since 1972 to advance social justice, gender equality, and poverty eradication. With presence in over 15 counties, AAIK partners with local communities, government agencies, and civil society organizations to challenge systemic injustices and drive transformative change. AAIK’s work is guided by four strategic objectives: 1. Women’s Rights 2. Youth and Governance 3. Resilience and Livelihoods 4. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will primarily be based in Nairobi but may be required to travel to other Local Rights Programs (LRPs) to support projects when necessary. Accommodation will be arranged by AAIK where volunteers will be placed within host families to foster cultural integration and security. Volunteers will have private rooms and access to shared spaces such as kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms. Transport to office will be at a reasonable distance, and where accommodation is far, AAIK and the volunteer will make local transport arrangements to ensure safety. Leave & absence is as per policies
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive pre-departure, on-arrival, and in-country training covering topics including: • Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) & Social Transformation • SHEA and Safeguarding • Participation in trainer activities and trainings • Training development and delivery of mentorship • Global citizenship Additionally, volunteers will undergo continuous capacity development through formal training at the Global Platforms, mentorship and emersion to activities.
Participant profile
• Strong interest in activism, grassroots organizing, and creative advocacy. • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to use multimedia tools for advocacy. • Good facilitation and community engagement skills. • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including campaign messaging and digital content creation. • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment. • Experience in community organizing, advocacy campaigns, or social movements is desirable but not mandatory.
