Last Minute: Community Supported Agriculture in North-East Germany near the Baltic Sea (3-8 months between March and October 2025)

Kultur- und Initiativenhaus Greifswald e.V.

SOLAWI STRALSUND

Niepars, Germany

Description

Hello, we are Katy and Ingo, and we run a farm with approx. 1.5 ha of land according to the idea of “Solidarity Agriculture” (SoLaWi / CSA) in the market garden system. We are currently in our fifth year of cultivation and want to supply 65 harvesting partners, a restaurant and our farm store with fruit and vegetables during this period. In a team of three people we grow many different seasonal vegetables and fruit varieties, offer educational programs for schools and live with our three children (aged 11, 9 and 6) and our animals (2 dogs, 3 pot-bellied pigs, 5 cats and chickens) on our small farm with farmland around it. It is located in the village of Duvendiek, not far from the picturesque island of Rügen and the beautiful Baltic Sea beach Fischland Darß / Zingst (about 30 minutes to the Baltic Sea and 10 minutes to the Bodden). Anyone who loves peace and quiet, would like to get to know gardening and is also able to lend a hand is cordially invited.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation will be in a small house on the farm premise. It is equipped with a kitchen and bathroom. You will receive food allowance each month and are responsible for your meals yourself. You will receive a monthly travel ticket. You can get a bicycle from us, for which no deposit is required. We cook and eat lunch together from Wednesday to Friday. The rest of the meals can be prepared in your own kitchen.

Training during the activity

Depending on the length of your stay with us, you will participate in one or two seminar weeks organized by the German National Agency: the on arrival training (mandatory) and midterm evaluation (if staying more than six months). Both take place somewhere in Germany, together with other ESC volunteers. Through our coordinating organisation Turbina Pomerania you can get in contact with other international volunteers in the region. Moreover, we cooperate with another ESC project nearby where you can learn additional skills.

Participant profile

We are looking for an open-minded person interested in nature, sustainable development and the idea of Community-supported agriculture (CSA). We will share with you our knowledge and passion about CSA as an alternative and sustainable form of agriculture. No previous knowledge required. Applications can be sent in English, German or Spanish. Please apply as soon as possible. We are looking for someone who can start immediately and stay until fall (Sept/Oct. 2025), minimum of 3 months, ideally longer. Please tell us in your application when and how long you would want to become a volunteer with us. It is possible to apply for this position as a team of 2 people (just a couple or close friends because there is only one bedroom). Please note: we only accept applications through the application form of our coordinating organisation "Turbina Pomerania". On their page you can also find pictures & some more info about us. Please apply with a quick text here on the Youth Portal and fill the form here: https://turbina-pomerania.org/en/apply. For any questions, please write to: application@turbina-pomerania.org. For this last minute opportunity, we can only accept applications from residents of EU countries who do not need a visa to volunteer in Germany. If you are resident in another country (or resident in an EU country but need a visa) and think this is the ideal place for you, please write us only an email and we can discuss a stay on 2026. Thank you. We look forward to your applications!
