SJ/ESC56 - Let’s rehab the garden stone wall!
SOLIDARITES JEUNESSES MCP
Les Villages des Jeunes, délégation régionale de Solidarités Jeunesses en Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Orpierre, France
Description
Come and have fun in the village of Orpierre, world-famous for its rock climbing! Set in a remarkable natural environment, the village stands between an impressive cliff and the Céans River. Opposite the village, in the valley on the other bank of the river, you'll find the gardens, a natural space where you can relax and cool off in summer. Here, the vigor of the tree roots, time, and the weather have cleared away the dry-stone wall characteristic of this site. Would you like to join us in putting everything back in place? We're going to learn and experiment with the traditional dry-stone construction technique. For several years now, in partnership with the commune of Orpierre, the association Les Villages des Jeunes has been working to bring to life, maintain, and promote dry-stone work in the area through international work camps.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will be accommodated in individual tents at a campsite close to the site. The site will be equipped with a large tent that will house the kitchen as well as the group's collective meeting place during the stay. You will have access to sanitary facilities and Wi-Fi. Here, we take care with our food to reduce our environmental impact: we eat local as much as possible and reduce our meat consumption to twice a week. Daily life is organized collectively: menus (vegetarian, vegan diets, etc.), shopping, activities, and so on. We organize outings to run errands, using the vehicles provided.
Training during the activity
The work begins with clearing the site of brushwood, carefully observing and reading the parts of the wall in the traditional way that are in good condition here. You'll then work on removing the remaining parts, enabling you to start reassembling the wall in the traditional dry-stone manner. A local expert will guide you in your choice of stones and teach you how to position them correctly on the wall. Each day, two members of the group will take turns preparing meals for the team; the menu will be defined in advance. You'll work on the sites during the mornings from Monday to Friday.
