Description

The volunteer will carry out his/her activities at the CDRO offices in Totonicapán, with trips to the beneficiary communities in the field. In coordination with the person responsible for the CDRO Work Unit and Health Team, he/she will support the technical training of local communities on issues related to family farming from an agroecological production approach. Activities will focus on strengthening the health strategy at the community level, working from a gender perspective and cultural relevance approach; The volunteer will primarily support the development of technical content for the training of community promoters and the design of didactic material focused on agroecological training for community promoters, producers and young people; Facilitate workshops with farmers and community producers; Visit rural communities and contribute to nutrition research; Accompany the Medical Team and support community health diagnoses; Support the development of workshops for midwives.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer's accommodation will be in the center of the municipality of Totonicapán, close to basic services (markets, pharmacies, etc.) and will comply with the following spaces: single room, kitchen, living/dining room. Electricity, water, internet, and the rent will be covered by the organization. Food can be bought in markets and in dining halls. Traditional cuisine is based on corn, typically in tortillas and/or tamales and offers broths, soups, vegetables, salads, chicken, beef, pork, and seafood. Training during the activity

The volunteer will receive initial training upon arrival that will include an introduction to the CDRO team, for integration and accompaniment; an orientation on the CDRO Association, and explanation of objectives and projects; visits to the communities, to meet direct collaborators and beneficiaries. You will be introduced to the context and way of life of Guatemala, culture and traditions. The training will also deal with the issue of security and movement in the region, including the tourist places you can visit.

Participant profile

The volunteer will have knowledge in health and nutrition. In particular, the following will be valued: previous experience or knowledge of community health, properties and use of native plants, anthropometry for children, health and nutrition of children and women, as well as ability in adult education methodologies and in the development of teaching and support materials, ability to work in teams and in rural communities and aptitude for volunteering, sense of responsibility and organization. For Individual volunteering. Eligibility : Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
