Inclusive Learning In Volunteering Experiences (ILIVE)

CENTRE EUROPEEN DU VOLONTARIAT

BRUXELLES (Project implementation: Mechelen), Belgium

Description

The project provides learning experiences for young people with disabilities It unites European Solidarity Corps volunteers in international teams for short-term interventions supporting young people with disabilities to learn in the context of sports volunteering. Focused on fostering positive learning experiences and outcomes, the initiative includes campaigns to attract young people with disabilities to volunteer in both mainstream and disability-focused sports, breaking down barriers. ESC volunteers will also design campaigns to reach out to more sports clubs & associations at the grass roots level beyond those involved in the project to invite them to offer inclusive volunteering opportunities, benefiting the community and young people with disabilities to improve their personal and professional development in the short, medium and long term. This project is looking for 7 local volunteers and 5 internationals to promote multiculturality and cultural understanding.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The experience will unfold across two distinct locations in the City of Mechelen (European Volunteering Capital 2025). In the first half of the project, volunteers will stay in a charming, historic village surrounded by nature, with convenient amenities. In the second half, participants will transition to a Sports Hotel, complete with sports-focused facilities. Throughout the experience, volunteers will have the chance to cook and explore a variety of different cuisines. Transportation between locations will be provided for all participants.

Training during the activity

All the participants will be part of a pre-departure meeting where they will receive general information about the activities and things that they need to prepare before coming to the city. Along the three weeks (21 days) the participants will receive training and support from experts in the subject in order to support them to volunteer with knowledge, practice and a purpose. All the volunteers will receive a “Future opportunities” session in the last days with the purpose of helping them after the experience. A mentor will be available to support during the volunteering path.
