Volunteering working tasks at Youth Center include: - Assisting Vasatokka staff with national and international youth work: camp schools, kids camps, special youth work camps, Erasmus+ and ESC team projects, international youth camps - Planning & guiding activities for youth groups, helping organize happenings in youth center and elsewhere in Inari - Cleaning facilities & outdoor, indoor & equipment maintenance - Assisting our kitchen with dishes, when there are big groups in - Assisting with office work related to youth work projects - Making social media content - There can be visits to other small villages of Lapland e.g. schools or youth houses to organize international activities - Working in municipal youth house & assisting at hobby clubs with local youngsters Volunteer will gain experience and learn working life skills related to youth work, group leading, tourism and nature sector, develop language skills and gain cultural knowledge.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Hostel-like apartment with a private bedroom, shared living room, showers, toilet, and well-equipped kitchen. There can be occasionally a need to share the bedroom with other volunteer. Sauna is available. Check: http://www.vasatokka.fi/en Volunteers can have ready-served meals in the youth center dining room when there are customer groups with meals included. On days when ready meals are not provided, volunteers cook for themselves in the apartment and and purchase groceries from Inari village. Monthly food money is 125€. No public transportation, 10km distance to Inari.
Training during the activity
Working language is English. If needed, volunteer takes part in online linguistic course, and it is considered as working time. Volunteer takes part in On-arrival training (5 days) organized by Finnish National Agency. On-arrival training is arranged in Southern Finland, Kokkola, Youth Center Villa Elba. Volunteer takes part also in mid-term evaluation (2 days), which is organized nearby Helsinki, the capital city.
Participant profile
We are looking for a long term volunteer (preferably 6 months or more, starting August 2025) who is... - Social and easy to approach! Willing to work and play with kids and youngsters. - Responsible, always finishes the given tasks. - Open-minded, creativity appreciated to break through the language borders :) - Represents Vasatokka youth workers in front of local partners, kids and youngsters. - Flexible, since there can be sudden changes to schedules. - Motivated to do all kinds of working tasks from cleaning and maintenance to guiding groups and office work - working tasks can be modified according the skills / strengths / interests of the volunteer - Able to follow schedules, since it is important to be on time when there is a certain timetable - Has positive energy - Has a survivor attitude towards the rural circumstances and location * :) *Youth Center Vasatokka is located "in the middle of nowhere", and surrounded by beautiful nature; big lake, forest, hills, and wilderness. Nearest village Inari is 10km away, and there is no public transportation. At free time it's possible to cycle to village, and approximately once a week staff will give a ride to village to shop groceries. Priviledge of participation is given to applicants who are: - currently unemployed - aren't currently studying or in training - doesn't necessarily have experience with ESC or Erasmus+ projects, doesn't necessarily have that much traveling experience - can be considered a person with fewer opportunities* compared to average person in home country according to ESC program guide * ”People with fewer opportunities means people who, for economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, a migrant background, or for reasons such as disability and educational difficulties or for any other reasons, including those that can give rise to discrimination under article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental rights of the European Union, face obstacles that prevent them from having effective access to opportunities under the programme.”
