The village of Montaigu-le-Blin, located in the Bourbonnais region of northern Auvergne, boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, including the 13th-century Montaigu-le-Blin fortress. International volunteers have been welcomed at the castle since the 1980s to assist in its maintenance, promotion, and to contribute to local life during the summer. Workcamps are organized at the fortress, where volunteers participate in restoration tasks under a technical supervisor's guidance, including masonry work, woodwork maintenance, and maintaining the fortress's environment. Caciaura organization manages the medieval fortress and facilitates the involvement of international volunteers in its preservation, renovation, and tourist activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is in individual tents, located 10-15 minutes on foot from the fortress and 5 minutes from the village center. The site promotes an eco-friendly lifestyle with waste sorting and composting. Facilities include: Individual tents An alternative shelter for severe weather A cabin with an indoor kitchen Individual toilets and showers in solid structures Outdoor sinks Basins and soap for washing clothes A large marquee with tables and chairs

Training during the activity

During your volunteer experience, you'll benefit from expert guidance. For the construction work, you'll be accompanied by a professional specializing in stones and traditional, eco-friendly mansonry techniques. For daily life and overall support, a dedicated facilitator will be on hand. This support system ensures you'll have both the technical expertise and personal assistance needed for a successful and enriching volunteer experience.
