Description
Kongo Community Development Association (KoCDA) is a community-based organization in Kongo, Upper East Region, Ghana, committed to empowering local communities through education and development. The ICT Volunteer will help equip students and community members with essential digital skills, fostering growth and preparing them for future opportunities. The role includes conducting computer training for Junior and Senior High School students, teachers, and other community members, supporting ICT teachers, and promoting digital literacy. Volunteers will also help manage the solar-powered ICT centre, ensuring it is fully utilized to benefit the community and enhance teaching and learning through technology.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be hosted at the NDAHA Guesthouse. The rooms are titled, and volunteers have their lockable room, toilet, and shower in each room. There is no Air Conditioner, but each room has ceiling fans. There is running water and electricity. Volunteers can prepare their food because there is a kitchen, a kitchen cabinet, a refrigerator to use. Tropical food, fruits, and vegetables are readily available and in abundance. There are supermarkets in the regional capital, Bolgatanga, where volunteers can get their needs.
Training during the activity
This opportunity is part of the BRIDGE project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development and Gender Equality), in which volunteers will have the chance to work on a common objective: empowerment and skills development of vulnerable communities, with a focus on women groups and enhance digital skills, participate in UN Women Summits and animating digital workshops. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for individuals passionate about ICT education, digital literacy, and community empowerment. The role is well-suited for someone eager to make a tangible impact in a grassroots organization in rural Ghana, working closely with students, teachers, and community members to enhance their digital skills. Candidates should have a background or interest in education, ICT, community development, or social work. Experience in teaching computer skills, training educators, or running digital literacy programs is highly valued. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt to a rural setting and work with diverse groups. The ideal volunteer should be self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a passion for increasing computer awareness and using ICT as a tool for learning and development. Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
