Description

Aisling Project is an after-school initiative located in Ballymun, Dublin. Aisling Project works to provide children and young people with a secure and enjoyable environment where they can spend time after school, be part of a programme that focuses on building relationships with others, fosters a sense of responsibility and encourages a sense of identity and self-worth. It was set up in 1997 and has Five Projects in Ballymun. The aim of each project is to prevent early school leaving, to benefit the community of Ballymun by advancing education through an after school service for the children in the area. A hot nutritious meal is provided each day that the child attends, homework supervision and support is also provided and planned developmental activities take place each day.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is arranged and paid by Aisling Project through placements with host families, in 2024 we were able to place volunteers together in a house in the community. This will be dependent on availability of accommodation nearer the arrival date. Volunteers receive a light lunch & dinner each day they attend the Project. A monthly allowance is paid to help with other food expenses and transport costs.

Participant profile

The volunteers contribute their time, energy and enthusiasm towards the aims and objectives of the Aisling Project's activities. Volunteers should have some knowledge, interest and experience of the issues that young people may experience and have some experience of how to manage challenging behaviour of children. Skills in leadership, planning activities, community involvement and group management is desirable.
