PHILANTHROPY, CHARITABLE FOUNDATION OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

Ruma, Serbia

Description

Philanthropy in Ruma provides home care for 35 older adults with a social worker and two caregivers. The office has a Second Hand shop and a computer classroom, supported by volunteers. In villages, older volunteers run creative workshops. A weekly IT class helps seniors, while humanitarian aid—food, hygiene, and clothing—is distributed daily, assisting 200 people monthly. Your tasks will be: ✔️ Assist in raising community awareness about humanitarian initiatives ✔️ Strengthen relationships with the community and maintain humanitarian engagement ✔️ Support daily distribution of food, clothing, and essentials for vulnerable and homeless individuals ✔️ Track and document the distribution process ✔️ Receive and sort humanitarian aid ✔️ Participate in field activities for older persons, including creative workshops, doctor visits, and computer courses

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Ruma seems as a small town, but you will not get bored here. Your accommodation is 500-1000m from the office in the city center, about a 15-20 min walk. Ruma has bike lanes, public transport, and trains for travel outside the city. Markets, restaurants, and cafés are everywhere. The Central Square is 300m from Philanthropy’s office. Nearby are Borkovačko Lake, Fruška Gora National Park, Novi Sad (35 km), and Sremska Mitrovica (23 km). Tourist spots include Zasavica Nature Reserve and Obedska Bara, a historic wetland ideal for birdwatching and boat tours.

Training during the activity

You will collaborate with your mentors to develop a learning and development plan and may join Philanthropy's capacity-building activities where possible. Along with the mandatory Code of Conduct orientation and Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults training, you can also receive training in Project Cycle Management and Monitoring & Evaluation, helping you better understand program development and activity implementation.

Participant profile

We need you to be adaptable to cultural sensitivities and changing contexts in humanitarian and development work. You must uphold a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination and strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and key policies, including Safeguarding, Anti-Discrimination, and Data Protection. Ideally, you are cooperative, productive, and communicative—an empathetic yet rational individual. ----------- Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis!!!!
