Volunteering in an orphanage "WG Bagger" in Leipzig

Internationaler Bund - IB Mitte gGmbH für Bildung und Soziale Dienste

Internationaler Bund - IB Mitte gGmbH für Bildung und Soziale Dienste Niederlassung Sachsen

Leipzig, Germany

Description

The children’s home groups ‘WG Am Bagger’ of International Bund (IB) are located in Thekla, a district of Leipzig, not far from the lake ‘Bagger’. There are 19 children, teenagers and young adults living in three residential groups at our centre. https://www.internationaler-bund.de/standort/211567 For various reasons, they are unable to live with their parents. We offer them a home for a certain period of time without claiming to be a substitute for a parental home. The task of the volunteer is to support the children and young people in everyday matters, such as leisure activities inside and outside the centre, doing their homework, preparing and cooking meals, tidying up their rooms or doing individual shopping. We are happy to try to integrate the volunteer's personal interests and strengths into everyday group life, e.g. creative activities or projects. The working time is mainly in the afternoons, as the children and young people are at daycare or school in the mornings.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You are provided with a shared furnished apartment in Leipzig or surrounding with 2 or more other European volunteer/s. The apartment also has a kitchen in which the volunteers can prepare food for themselves. The volunteers will receive a meal allowance as well as a pocket money per month. Moreover, either a local transport ticket in Leipzig (Bildungsticket) will be provided to the volunteer.

Training during the activity

Our organization offers to the volunteer the possibility to get a language learning support, according to their current level of German (under B2). All participants (long-term volunteering) must participate in two mandatory ESC seminars during their project: On-Arrival and Mid-Term Training. These are opportunities to meet volunteers from other countries, gain understanding of the EU values and reflect on the ongoing project. The volunteers will also get to know other volunteers from Leipzig.

Participant profile

The motivation of the volunteer to do a voluntary service and work with children is the most important criteria in selecting the volunteers. Other criteria might be: - very good English language skills or good basic knowledge of the German language is an advantage, - desirable: initial experience in the field of education or social work. We need an extended certificate of good conduct. Since 2021, it is obligatory that people working with children in Germany have a measles immunisation. We are looking for young persons, who want to join in individual volunteering programme in Leipzig. The volunteer will be working together with the educators, supporting their daily work with children. Please apply via PASS Portal or via mail to: eu-volunteers-leipzig@ib.de
