The power of together

ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE

AVENTURA MARAO CLUBE

AMARANTE, Portugal

Description

The volunteers will collaborate with local organic farmers in the Amarante region to support environmentally sustainable practices and community development. Their tasks will include harvesting grapes and other seasonal produce, planting, weeding, composting, and preparing natural fertilizers. Volunteers will also assist with farm logistics, contributing to both food production and environmental preservation. Through these activities, volunteers will gain hands-on experience in ecological farming methods and deepen their understanding of sustainable food systems. Beyond the fields, they will engage with local farmers to exchange green practices and promote eco-conscious living, fostering a spirit of environmental responsibility. By participating in this project, volunteers will actively contribute to the sustainability of the local community while enjoying the scenic beauty and unique cultural experience of northern Portugal.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation is provided at the youth center, with free laundry. Participants will share rooms with other team members. The youth center is equipped with internet, workspaces, and a bar/restaurant. Meals (vegetarian with protein options) are provided Monday to Saturday at the center, with one non-vegetarian dinner per week. Volunteers receive €20 for Sunday meals (reimbursed with invoices).

Training during the activity

Volunteers will have access to the Portuguese Language Basics Course on the EU Academy portal. Once in Amarante, they will also receive basic Portuguese lessons conducted by the long- term volunteers.

Participant profile

Volunteers should have a strong interest in sustainability, organic farming, and environmental care. Prior experience is not necessary, but participants must be eager to learn and actively engage in all activities. Openness to collaboration in an inclusive and supportive environment is essential. Volunteers should be adaptable and physically prepared for outdoor tasks, as well as comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Full availability for the program’s duration and enthusiasm for its ecological and community-centered mission are mandatory. Candidates must be 18 to 30 years old and reside in one of the eligible countries. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
