Care for unaccompanied minors (Orléans)

Description

The volunteer will take part in activities of the French Red Cross Orléans local branch, aiming at animating actions to enable young isolated migrants to access services, leisure and culture to better integrate the local community. Together with two French young service civique volunteers: Accompany minors to their appointments (administration, health, school…) and invest in these moments together to exchange, understand their desires, needs and expectations. Organize awareness sessions with other associations on sexual violence, sexually transmitted disease, drug addiction etc. Host a daily drop-in center for minor migrants with coffee, tea, biscuits, games and a moment to talk and feel at ease Put in place collective actions (sports activities, cultural outings, debates on the news, games, initiations to sports of the country of origin ...) with young French Red Cross volunteers and other actors of the territory: sports associations, cultural institutions, etc.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be in team with another European volunteers. They will live in differents studios in the same building. They will receive pocket money and money to buy food. They will by provided with a public transportation card and a a bike. Timetable could be flexible according to activities. However a typical volunteering day will start at 9am and finish at 5pm with a one-hour lunch break. The volunteer could be asked to work on evenings according to local branch’s events. The volunteer will have two days off per week and two holidays per month.

Training during the activity

French Red Cross Welcoming Training: Red Cross movement, values and principles, French Red Cross activities and organisation, French Red Cross organisation and activities in Orléans > First aid course (1 day) > Migration training: what is migration and how to welcome migrants (1/2 day) > French language courses: 2-hour group course + 1.5- hour individual course

Participant profile

Available for the whole duration of the project • Ready to live an a small town • Strong motivation to support vulnerable young people. Commitment to solidarity, inclusion, and human dignity. Alignment with the principles of the Red Cross Movement (neutrality, impartiality, humanity). Emotional maturity and patience. Open-mindedness and adaptability. Empathy and ability to listen. Basic French is a strong asset. Readiness to work in a multicultural and sometimes emotionally challenging environment.
