Description

As a volunteer at Vega School & Activity Center, you become an important part of a vibrant community hub in the heart of Haninge’s newest district. The center houses a school, youth center, library, cultural activities, and associations – and is open almost every day of the year. The work is guided by three core values: Learn, Discover, and Connect. The volunteer’s role is to support the daily operations and help create a safe and inclusive environment together with the staff. Tasks are varied and may include: Taking part in activities for children and young people at the youth center and in the school. Contributing with your own ideas for workshops, events, or creative projects. Collaborating with civil society and local businesses as part of the center’s broad network. Supporting daily routines and helping to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

As a volunteer in Haninge, you will live in a fully furnished shared apartment with three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room, together with two other volunteers. You receive monthly pocket money and a food allowance to cover your meals. Volunteers are responsible for buying groceries and cooking for themselves. To support your mobility, we provide an SL travel card, giving you unlimited access to Stockholm’s public transport system, including buses, trains, and the metro.

Training during the activity

As a volunteer in Haninge you will receive several forms of training and support throughout your stay: On-arrival and mid-term training organized by the Swedish National Agency. Local introduction to the workplace, routines, safety, and how open youth work is in Sweden. Language learning support. (Swedish basics) Regular mentoring sessions to support your personal development. Youthpass certificate to recognize your learning during the project. This training ensures that you feel confident, supported, and can grow both personally and professionally.

Participant profile

We are looking for a motivated young person between 18–30 years old who is open-minded, responsible, and eager to contribute to a dynamic and inclusive community center. You should enjoy working with children and teenagers, be willing to take initiative, and feel comfortable in both independent and team settings. Ideal qualities: Interest in youth work, education, or social inclusion Willingness to learn and adapt to new cultures and environments Basic English communication skills (no Swedish required) Creative mindset and a positive attitude Respect for diversity, equality, and democratic values Previous experience in youth work or volunteering is a plus but not required. Most important is your motivation to learn, engage, and make a difference.
