Description

UNG137 is an open youth centre in Haninge that welcomes young people aged 13–17. The centre is a safe, inclusive space where youth can hang out, express themselves, and take part in creative, social, and educational activities. As a volunteer, you will be part of the team supporting daily activities, building trustful relationships with the visitors, and encouraging participation. Your role includes helping with everything from games and sports to workshops, courses, and events – always with the focus on creating a welcoming and empowering atmosphere. You’ll work closely with experienced youth workers and be encouraged to bring your own ideas to the programme. Working hours include afternoons, evenings, and some weekends. You’ll receive mentoring and support to grow in your role and learn more about open youth work in a Swedish context.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will live in a shared, fully furnished apartment in Haninge together with two other ESC volunteers. The apartment includes private bedrooms, a shared kitchen, and a living room. You receive a monthly food allowance and pocket money, and are responsible for buying and preparing your own meals. A public transport card (SL) is provided for unlimited travel within the Stockholm region.

Training during the activity

As a volunteer at UNG137, you will receive: On-arrival and mid-term training from the Swedish National Agency Local introduction to Haninge’s youth work approach, routines, and safety procedures Ongoing mentoring and weekly check-ins with a designated youth worker Opportunities to join internal trainings on topics like inclusion, youth participation, and event planning Youthpass certificate to document your learning outcomes and competences Training is adapted to your interests and growth, with space for reflection, feedback, and creativity.

Participant profile

We are looking for a volunteer aged 18–30 who enjoys working with teenagers in an open and informal setting. You should be open-minded, responsible, and eager to contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for all youth. Ideal qualities: Interest in social work, youth participation, or community building Good communication skills and a friendly, respectful attitude Creative and willing to contribute ideas for activities Comfortable working in diverse and multicultural settings Basic English required – no Swedish needed Previous experience with youth work is appreciated but not required – motivation and engagement are what matter most.
