Sea Turtle Conservation in Cilento

Associazione Costiera Amalfitana Riserva Biosfera

Ascea, Italy

Description

!Looking for 1 last participant for our 32-day summer volunteering experience on the Cilento coastline in South Italy! You’ll work with international teams to protect sea turtle nests, support hatchlings, and engage local communities in marine conservation. Daily activities include early morning beach patrols, 24-hour nest vigilance during hatchings, public awareness campaigns, and environmental surveys to assess human impact. Organized by ACARBIO and part of the CarettainVista network, coordinated by the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station (LIFE TURTLENEST), this is a hands-on conservation project offering field experience, emotional challenges, and lasting memories. Come live the wild rhythm of nature, side-by-side with passionate biologists and volunteers from across Europe.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will rotate between Palazzo Ricci (Ascea) and tent stations. Matresses and camp kitchen tools are provided, volunteers should bring a sleeping bag . Accommodation, food supplies or food budget are covered by the ESC programme. Volunteers also receive €6/day pocket money and travel reimbursement according to ESC guidelines. The living conditions reflect the field-based nature of the project, ensuring close contact with the environment.

Training during the activity

Participants will be trained in sea turtle monitoring techniques, including nest tracking, hatchling protection, and public engagement. Supervision and training are provided by experienced biologists and conservationists as part of the CarettainVista network and LIFE TURTLENEST project. Volunteers will gain practical skills in marine conservation and fieldwork, with support throughout their stay.
