Description

Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen is an NGO that defends the rights of asylum seekers and refugees in Belgium. The selected participant will contribute to the implementation of the Startpunt project, with the support of the Startpunt and protection teams. They will take on the role of Project Assistant, helping to ensure people on the move receive accurate information and support throughout their journey. Main Tasks and Responsibilities - Provide clear and accessible information to applicants for international protection at the registration center for asylum and at the Legal Helpdesk - Coordinate and support volunteers during activities - Assist in monitoring the situation during activities - Collect data and contribute to the preparation of monthly and quarterly activity reports - Organize and lead training sessions for volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared and informed - Ensure that the information provided is regularly reviewed and updated

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will receive a monthly payment (€1095,00) for organizational support, covering accommodation and food expenses, and a monthly amount of €182,50 for individual expenses. The volunteer can choose their own accommodation; many choose to stay in Brussels. Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen will support the volunteer in finding appropriate accommodation by providing relevant sources (websites, social media groups…) where accommodation is published. Home-to-office travel will be paid; the office is situated just a 5-minute subway ride away from the historical center of Brussels

Training during the activity

At the start, intercultural training will be part of the training organised by JINT. Intercultural encounters being essential in the project, will remain a subject in feedback sessions and evaluations. Internal training is being periodically set up to keep staff and volunteers steady on track with regulations. Every new staff member and volunteers receive an introduction training and folder with essential information on the organization (online platforms, project benefits and workplace rules) More training can be organized by Vluchtelingenwerk or external organizations during the year.

Participant profile

Educational background in Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences, or a related field Strong commitment to human rights and refugee support Understanding of the situation of asylum seekers and refugees, including the role of humanitarian and international organizations in providing protection and assistance Awareness of the role of civil society in migration issues Willingness to learn and adapt to the Belgian legal and political context Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; knowledge of other languages is an asset Analytical skills and ability to contribute to reporting Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse groups Team player Proactive and solution-oriented, able to take initiative and work independently when needed Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic work environment Good organizational and planning skills
