Restoration of the tower of the listed castle Wittlage

VSD Verbund sozialer Dienste gGmbH

Bad Essen, Germany

Description

Verbund sozialer Dienste (VSD) is a non-profit social organization focused on providing child and youth social services. VSD is dedicated to inclusion, welfare and social support for children, teenagers, with diverse needs. We are committed to promoting cultural understanding, building meaningful international partnerships, and creating enriching intercultural experiences. The project will focus on renovation work of the exterior and the interior of the 7-storey tower of castle Wittlage. The planned auxiliary work will be carried out under the guidance of craftsmen and relate to the masonry of the tower. This includes jointing and plastering, repair of stones and planks, considering aspects of monument preservation. A specialist for occupational safety will accompany us. In group discussions, the learning outcomes and the degree of target achievement will be reflected. Work will be carried out in two shifts. A leisure programme with excursions, barbecue evenings etc. will be offered.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Meals are generally provided on site during working hours. On days off food allowance shall be paid each day. Accommodation will be in the form of a spacious and well-equipped community tent, designed to accommodate groups in comfort and privacy (address: Burgstr.3-5, 49152 Bad Essen). The tent is equipped with real beds to ensure restful sleep. Nestled in the heart of the castle grounds, the community tent is surrounded by monumental architecture and lush greenery, perfect for gatherings and barbecue events.

Participant profile

Volunteers should have an interest in historical monuments and be able to carry out the described manual activities under supervision. Special expertise is not required. However, they should not suffer from a fear of heights and should be able to work in a team and be community orientated. Basic knowledge of english is required. Next to the technical parts it would be great if two or three volunteers with an interest in writing, photographing and social media would be willing to support the documentation of the project.
