Description
ENGIM has been operating in Ecuador since 2005, supporting local development through international cooperation activities, focused on training activities and environmental protection. As part of the “Resilient Schools” initiative, Engim is assessing the environmental and sustainability impact of resilience measures implemented on-site. Tasks: Conduct quantitative field data collection on energy use, water consumption, waste generation, and other relevant indicators Coordinate with school staff and local education district for data access and permissions Enter collected data into the EDGE Buildings platform Monitor and document the outcomes of introduced resilience measures Promote sustainability awareness within the school community Collaborate to ensure data collection aligns with project goals Compile and deliver a comprehensive final report summarizing methodology, key findings, impact assessment, lessons learned, and recommendations for future replications
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be accommodated in a shared apartment or guesthouse in a community near the project area. Basic utilities such as electricity, water, and internet access will be available, though service may be intermittent due to contingencies. A monthly allowance of €800 will be provided, covering daily expenses, food and local transport. A laptop will be provided, and reimbursement for mobile phone expenses is included. Flexible working hours and a combination of on-site and remote work may be available, depending on the autonomy of the volunteer and the schedule of activities.
Training during the activity
Pre-departure training on humanitarian principles, safety and security. Pre-departure and on-site training on child safeguarding, intercultural preparation, ecuadorian education system On-site training on community engagement, technical and pedagogical skills, data collection and analysis tools Access to training resources for continuous learning. The volunteer will receive briefings/training with different departments related to the mission and the position.
Participant profile
Education & Training: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, Architecture, Urban Planning, Natural Sciences, or related fields. Complementary coursework or field experience in green building certification systems (e.g. EDGE, LEED), climate resilience, or environmental education are strong assets. Skills & Competencies: Experience in field data collection and environmental monitoring. Familiarity with sustainability indicators (e.g., energy, water, waste). Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders (schools, institutions, technical teams). Precision and attention to detail in data entry and documentation. Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills. Capacity to produce technical and narrative reports. Autonomy and flexibility in managing field work. Cultural sensitivity and respect for gender and intercultural diversity. Good communication and facilitation skills in multicultural settings. Language & Technical Skills: Good knowledge of Spanish (minimum level B2). Proficiency in MS Office / Google Workspace. Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
