Description
This is our 5th year of having 3-4 volunteers from all around Europe. The project consists of tree planting, tree care and the maintenance of a permaculture demonstration site. This site is used for educational purposes as well as community activities. The majority of the work is watering, pruning, mulching, planting, grass cutting and a lot of weeding. We also ensure that you have a well-rounded permaculture experience, i.e. visiting and working on other permaculture sites around Mallorca. We also arrange visiting teachers for specific projects, including bio-construction. In addition, we encourage you to create a project of your personal interest during the second half of your stay. Working language is English.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers live together in self-contained accommodation on the finca. Each volunteer has their own bedroom but share and are responsible for the cleanliness of all other spaces. Volunteers receive a food allowance of 180 euros / month, have their own vegetable garden and have access to all fruit growing on the farm. Transport for shopping is arranged once a week. The closest train station (Estacio Llubi), giving you access around the island, is a 15 min walk away. Please note that you will not qualify for the residents’ free train pass.
Training during the activity
We will start with a basic permaculture course and you will receive training for everything you are expected to do here. You will have access to a library of gardening books. In addition various permaculture and bio construction courses are held at regular intervals. We will teach you to create your own vegetable garden. During the second half of your stay each volunteer has the opportunity to create a project of personal interest to them.
Participant profile
18-29 years old, interested in permaculture, ideally with some prior experience. Please be aware that this is not a gap year in the sun, we are looking for volunteers to help us! All interest and experience in sustainability is a plus. A thirst for learning and a desire to be outdoors in any weather required. Minimum basic level Spanish. We want to know your motivation for this experience. Priority will be given to people with fewer advantages. Although we have vintage bicycles, most of our volunteers have brought their own, finding it the best way to get around.
