Rural skills and lifestyle
GAIA
Bozevce, Kosovo * UN resolution
Description
GAIA runs an environmental program in Bozevce village, which serves as a polygon for natural building, permaculture, community living and sustainable practices. Our project proves that it is possible that people from different cultures, backgrounds, ethnicities, ages can live and work together, and that life in a village can be a right choice :) Through the years, we hosted dozens of trainings, workshops and gatherings, and got support from many local and international volunteers. With all of them, we tackled different environmental and social topics, shared knowledge and skills, and incorporated different solutions into our design and programs. In this project the volunteers will mainly work on gardens and orchards at the property. The property is around 1.5ha large with different parcels spread around the facilities. Volunteers will be improving existing and creating new garden beds, care for orchards and plant trees, and setting up a nursery for growing more trees in the future.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be accommodated in a house with 4 rooms, a small kitchen, shower and outdoor composting toilet. Volunteers should bring their sleeping bags and towels. The volunteers will be cooking in teams, tasty vegan and vegetarian food, based on seasonal, and local ingredients. Cleaning will be done in teams too. On the property we live together with several dogs, cats, goats, chickens, geese and bees, so volunteers should be comfortable with their presence. Lifestyle is sustainable, simple, and without much technology, even though access to the internet is available.
Training during the activity
Learning opportunities include: Basics of permaculture thinking, Regenerative practices for food production, Sustainable lifestyle, How to cook vegetarian/vegan meals for big groups, How to live and share resources with others…
Participant profile
For the hosts it is important that the volunteers are interested in environmental issues, permaculture and simple and sustainable living. Also, your choice of traveling is important to us: environmental friendly options (trains, buses, ferries) are part of the lifestyle we promote. No previous experience is required, but strong motivation and will for an alternative approach. Sense of initiative and creativity are more than welcome. To apply for this project, all interested candidates should fill in this form: https://forms.gle/znevRSomFT658Apy9 (we will consider only those applications) // There will be free days for rest and we encourage volunteers to spend time in the village, to experience the rural lifestyle and recharge their batteries in nature, rather than going out of the village to discover other parts of Kosovo. For those that are interested in visiting some other locations in Kosovo, we recommend that they take a few days after the project to do it.
