SuperYouth is an individual volunteering activity hosted at KEAN’s Social Grocery in Iraklio, Athens. Since 2017, the structure supports around 400 beneficiaries, including unemployed people, low-income households, single-parent and large families, as well as legally residing third-country nationals. Volunteers will assist in distributing food, clothes, and basic goods, organizing creative and educational workshops for children, supporting job-search activities, and running visibility actions. They will also contribute to the “Accelerator of the Circular Economy: EKODI”, empowering beneficiaries to reuse materials and develop circular entrepreneurship skills. The project promotes social cohesion, dignity, and inclusion, while addressing poverty, unemployment, and low recycling rates.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

KEAN is responsible for fully covering the cost of your accommodation and the travel costs. The volunteer will stay in a shared fully equipped apartment in the center of the city of Athens which meets the required standards of hygiene and safety and has all the necessary equipment (home appliances, furniture, heating, household appliances, sheets, blankets etc.), it provides easy access to the public transportation and has access to the Internet, in order to promote and facilitate the communication of the volunteer with both their family and our organization.

Training during the activity

Volunteers will receive an introduction to KEAN, the Social Grocery’s mission and procedures, as well as training on safety, ethics, and the “do no harm” principle. They will be guided on food distribution, sponsorship outreach, and community awareness actions. Additional workshops will cover intercultural communication, non-formal learning methods, and circular economy practices through the EKODI accelerator. Continuous mentoring and language support are provided throughout the activity.

Participant profile

Participant will need to be an EU citizen, 18-30 years old. Moreover, they will need to have: - good grasp of English and/or Greek Language -interest in the topics of environmental protection and social challenges -desire to engage in group activities to tackle environmental and social challenges Young people with fewer opportunities (individuals with disabilities, LGBTQI etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply for this activity.
