European Solidarity Corps

The power of together

Village Together

Místní akční skupina svatého Jana z Nepomuku, z.s.

Spálené Poříčí, Czech Republic

Description

This European Solidarity Corps project takes place in western Czech Republic, in the municipalities of Spálené Poříčí, Žinkovy and Měcholupy, within 30 minutes of Plzeň. Activities are organized by the Local Action Group of St. John of Nepomuk (MAS SJN) and focus on cultural and social revitalization of rural areas that often lack facilities for community life. The volunteer will help with leisure and community activities at the Community Centre in Spálené Poříčí and in open clubs in Žinkovy and Měcholupy. The program also involves care for a community garden, running a public clothes-sharing closet, and supporting the local food bank. The volunteer will participate in intergenerational activities with children, youth, adults, and seniors, gaining broad experience in non-formal education and community work. The project offers room for personal ideas and pilot initiatives enriching local services.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Accommodation and food is fully covered; the volunteer will have a private room with bathroom and kitchen on the organization’s premises in Spálené Poříčí, avoiding daily commuting. Pocket money of EUR 7/day is provided, and travel costs to/from the Czech Republic are reimbursed according to ESC limits. Lunch is served in the school canteen or volunteers may cook themselves. For free-time travel, bus services connect Spálené Poříčí with Plzeň and the national rail network.

Training during the activity

During the project, the volunteer will gain skills in community work, non-formal education, event organization, and intergenerational activities with children, youth, adults, and seniors. They will learn to care for a community garden, support a food bank, and manage a clothes-sharing closet. The MAS SJN team will provide guidance, mentoring, and space for developing personal ideas, ensuring continuous support and opportunities for learning and growth.

Participant profile

We are looking for an open-minded, responsible, and flexible person aged between 18 and 30 who is interested in community work and enjoys engaging in meaningful activities. No specific qualifications are required – motivation, willingness to cooperate, and eagerness to learn are what matter most. The volunteer should have at least a basic knowledge of English to facilitate communication with the team and local partners. The project is also suitable for young people with fewer opportunities who would like to experience international volunteering in a friendly and supportive environment. A key requirement is the ability to commit to the full duration of two months.
