The animals of Noah's ark 2025
Service national de la jeunesse
Erpeldange-sur-Sûre, Luxembourg
Description
The "Service National de la jeunesse (SNJ)" (National Youth Service) is a state agency subordinate to the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth. The SNJ's tasks include contributing to the creation of the legal framework, organizing educational programmes for children and young people, supporting young people in their transition to active life. One mission of the SNJ Centre Cinqfontaines is to raise awareness of anti-discrimination among young people. The story of Noah's ark offers a good opportunity to discuss this difficult topic with young people. In this story all animals have the right to go on board. From there, we can make the transfer to people and human rights. The participants of the project will therefore deal with the topics of diversity and discrimination and will write a script for a children's theater play based on the story of Noah's Ark. At the end of the project, the participants will perform the play themselves.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will be accommodated in the SNJ chalet Erpeldange and will sleep in shared rooms. In the chalet, participants must purchase food for breakfast and dinner themselves (the costs will be covered) and will cook dinner together. The next supermarket is 10min. away from the chalet. Lunch is always taken in Ingeldorf. Public transport is free of charge in Luxembourg.
Training during the activity
The first 3 days after the volunteer’s arrival are dedicated to an on-arrival training. This training will prepare the team as good as possible for the upcoming challenges. During that training, the social workers who organize this project will also be present. The participants work in Ingeldorf (about 15 minutes from the chalet). There, the participants are supported by artists in the creative process and in the realization of the script and the performance.
Participant profile
The participants must have a basic level of English, should be autonomous enough to live on their own for most of the time and have the willingness to deal with the issues of diversity and discrimination. Participants should bring enthusiasm for theater and scriptwriting. They should also be willing to perform a play in front of an audience. Experience in acting and scriptwriting is an advantage, but not a precondition for participation in the project. The participants should be motivated to invest their time, knowledge and competences in the foreseen project.
