With a central library, 15 branches, a mobile library and an online-library, Leipzig Public Libraries (Leipziger Städtische Bibliotheken, LSB) are one of the largest public library systems in Germany, serving about 630,000 Leipzig residents. LSB have 750,000 items in their collections including books for people of all ages, DVDs, e-books, e-magazines, autographs, art works, and musical scores. We offer a wide range of services, such as (early) literacy programs, computer and library training, and special services for immigrants.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will live together with other volunteers in a shared flat, with your own single bedroom. Furthermore, you will receive food- & pocket money as well as a ticket for public transportation in Leipzig. Training during the activity

During the ESC: the volunteers receive a basic language training of some kind (not always an official course), also other training needed to carry out agreed tasks and the volunteer attend the On-Arrival training and Mid-term seminar offered by NA. In addition, there will be realized several project days towards topics of solidarity in Europe / participation / social projects for all ESC volunteers.

Participant profile

We are looking for an open-minded person with social competence and empathy who is interested in working with older people and children. You should be interested in cultural and educational work. In addition, you should be able to work in a team and be willing to learn and use the German language.
