Environmental volunteering in the south of Catalonia (Tarragona) 2026

Description
The ecological association www.gepec.cat (Tarragona) is seeking volunteers to assist with various tasks across different areas of our work: 1) Maintenance of the property where volunteer accommodation is located 2) Maintenance and management of farms with stewardship agreements 3) Monitoring of local fauna and flora 4) Support for naturalist schools and other environmental education activities 5) Support for local volunteer groups 6) Support for the communication and administration of the entity. The accommodation is located a 10-minute bike ride from the train station, which offers a one-hour journey to Barcelona, 20 minutes to Tarragona, and 30 minutes to Reus. We work throughout the province of Tarragona. If the volunteer needs to travel to perform their tasks, GEPEC will cover the transportation cost. We are looking for four volunteers to start between February/March and October/November 2026.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will live in an apartment with 5 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms, and 1 living and dining room. The 13,000 m² pine forest where the apartment is located borders a small beach and is surrounded by villas between Altafulla and Torredembarra. The maximum number of volunteers per bedroom is 1, and they share the rest of the space. If the volunteer needs to travel to perform their tasks, GEPEC will cover the transportation cost. The volunteers have 6€/day pocket money + 150€/month to buy food and the amount for travel (from/to home) provided by the European Solidarity Corps per km.
Training during the activity
The volunteers will receive training as volunteers in the entity of their original country. Also an arrival- and an intermediate training (of 1 week each) organized by the European Solidarity Corps with other European volunteers in other Spanish projects. Upon arrival, the volunteer coordinator will ensure that you have all the necessary information to be able to carry out your non-technical activities as a volunteer. The technical specialists of each field of work of the GEPEC undertake to explain the motivation and the way to carry out each work.
Participant profile
We are looking for young people who are sensitive to the environment, to nature, to plants, to animals. We want people capable of understanding the altruism of environmental associations. If these people are naturalists, they will enjoy their experience in our association more, and the most important thing is that they are motivated to learn and help in different areas. We need flexible and adaptable people. And we would like them to have a good level of Spanish, and with sensitivity to learning Catalan and its culture.
