Hope in the Himalayas: 59 Days Empowering Young Learners

ASOCIACION AMIGOS DE EUROPA

VIN

Kathmandu, Nepal

Description

Join a diverse team of young volunteers for an unforgettable 59-day journey in Nepal! Contribute to community development projects with Volunteer Initiative Nepal (VIN) while experiencing the country’s rich culture, traditions, and natural beauty. Learn, grow, and make a real difference—together. The ESC HumAid Volunteering Program in Okhaldhunga, Nepal focuses on four development areas: Public Health and Wellbeing, Child Protection, Early Childhood Education, and Teacher Development. Volunteers support local communities by assisting health workers, promoting hygiene and sanitation awareness, organising creative learning activities for children, helping Early Childhood Development Centres, and participating in teacher training support. The goal is to empower marginalized communities and contribute to sustainable development.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers stay in the Naratika Community Learning Centre (VIN hostel) in Okhaldhunga. Accommodation is simple, with shared living spaces, separate rooms for male and female volunteers, bunk beds, basic kitchen access, shared bathrooms, and occasional power cuts. Basic Nepali food is provided; specific dietary requirements must be managed by volunteers. Laundry service is available for a small fee. Volunteers spend the first night in Kathmandu, then travel by jeep to Okhaldhunga (approx. 8–9 hours). Project sites are reached by walking (10 minutes to 1–1.5 hours daily).

Participant profile

We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated volunteers who are ready to actively engage in community life. There are no formal physical fitness requirements; however, volunteers should be aware that daily walking to the project sites is part of the routine. Participants should feel comfortable with simple living conditions in a rural environment and be open to working alongside marginalized communities with sensitivity and respect.
