Team Volunteering: Communication & Media Volunteer - Sustainable Coffee Storytelling
VISIONEERS gGmbH
San Andrés, Zona de los Santos, Costa Rica
Description
During your Humaid ESK Teams Mission, you will support the VISIONEERS Coffee Farm by creating engaging video and social media content that highlights sustainable coffee production, environmental initiatives, and the social impact of the project. You will document daily activities on the farm, interview community members, and capture the stories of local youth, migrant workers, and the coffee-growing region of San Andrés. Your tasks include filming and editing videos for the VISIONEERS Café YouTube channel, producing social media content for Instagram and Facebook, developing creative concepts for online campaigns, and documenting workshops, trainings, and community events. You will collaborate closely with the local team to identify inspiring stories and promote the mission of sustainable agriculture and social inclusion. This role is ideal for volunteers passionate about communication, storytelling, and meaningful impact.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will stay at the VISIONEERS Finca, a sustainable coffee farm and community hub located in a very remote and rural area. San Andrés is a small village surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and coffee fields. Accommodation is simple and shared, offering basic comfort close to nature. Meals are provided daily with fresh, local ingredients. Transport for project activities, airport transfers, and local mobility support are partially included.
Training during the activity
You will receive a mandatory pre-departure online-training to prepare you for volunteering and working in a rural and remote environment. Upon arrival in Costa Rica, you will participate in an induction covering safety procedures, local protocols, and cultural orientation. Throughout the mission, you will be trained in sustainable agriculture, reforestation, environmental education, labor rights, and community engagement, supported by continuous mentoring.
Participant profile
We are looking for a creative and motivated participant with strong skills in video creation, visual storytelling, and social media communication. Ideal candidates bring creativity, technical know-how in video production and post-production, and a passion for sustainable development and community-oriented projects. You should enjoy capturing stories, producing engaging digital content, and communicating the mission of environmental protection, social inclusion, and sustainable coffee farming. This opportunity is ideal for volunteers with solid experience in filming, editing, and content planning, who are confident communicators and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team. A genuine interest in promoting environmental awareness and supporting local and migrant communities is essential. The project takes place in a very remote and rural village shaped by Christian values, which volunteers are expected to respect. To ensure a safe and supportive environment for local youth and community members, the farm maintains a strict no-drug, no-alcohol, and no-tobacco policy. English is mandatory; Spanish is highly desirable. The on-site staff team speaks Spanish, English, and German, providing strong support throughout the mission. Participants should be adaptable, open-minded, and comfortable living simply in a small countryside village surrounded by nature.
