ENGIM and PAKASHKA-SACHA seek to protect the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon forest and preserve the local indigenous cultural heritage. The project focuses on promoting education as a tool to empower and sensitize the local population, especially indigenous youth. The project supports youth in their vocational training and higher studies, accompanying them in an integral process of personal and professional development. It also strengthens intercultural exchange for social development and better understanding of the importance of the Amazon rainforest. Main tasks: Assist with the daily routine and care of the student residence and surrounding primary forest; Support vocational training and tutoring; Support teachers of rural schools in academic programs and the tutoring of children; Collaborate with an English school in delivering English classes for children and adults; Support daily administrative and communication tasks; Support environmental engagement activities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers are accommodated in the student residence. The house functions as residence, training center and meeting place. Basic utilities are available, though service may be intermittent due to contingencies. A monthly allowance of €680 is provided, covering daily expenses and local transport. Food is provided by Pakashka Sacha and shared with other residents. A laptop and reimbursement for mobile phone expenses is provided. Flexible working hours, including working on weekends, may be requested depending on the schedule of activities and the needs of the center.
Training during the activity
Pre-departure training on humanitarian principles, security, and program-specific knowledge; Pre-departure training on political and cultural Ecuadorian context; On-site training on intercultural approaches, Ecuadorian educational system, biodiversity conservation; Access to training resources for continuous learning; Regular briefings with ENGIM's technical and social staff.
Participant profile
We are looking for a motivated person willing to live in a rural area with limited leisure opportunities. The candidate should be flexible and open to a multicultural environment, as they will be surrounded by other volunteers and local youth, and expected to share common living spaces. The location presents certain security challenges, which require a modest lifestyle and strict adherence to safety protocols. A genuine interest in education and fieldwork is essential, along with the ability to adapt to demanding and unpredictable weather conditions. We are particularly seeking someone that has good language skills both in Spanish and English. Education & Training: Degree or background in languages, education, environmental sciences, or related fields; Experience in teaching children and/or managing youth groups is an asset. Skills & Competencies: Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; Willingness to work in rural areas and within multidisciplinary teams; Proactivity, adaptability, and problem-solving attitude. Language & Technical Skills: Good knowledge of Spanish (minimum level B1) and English (minimum level B2) - we speak only Spanish and English in the house; Good knowledge of MS Office. Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
