The power of together

Hands on learning and community living in an educational project of young people in Germany!

Nature Community eG

Schönsee, Germany

Description

This ESC offers you the unique experience of living, learning, and building together in a community of young people— with responsibility, sustainability, and hands-on learning. We are a group of young people creating spaces for self-determined education (Uniartcity´s). Currently we’re studying independently in an old hunting museum on the grounds of the Nature Community in Bavaria. During the last European Student Conference (ESC) in October 2025, international volunteers helped us to build single rooms in the large main hall before the start of the semester. Now, in the middle of the semester, we want to continue developing the building to gradually transform it into a true cultural, residential, and learning oasis for young people. Will you join us for that? Guided by Uniartcity mentors, you will not only be living and working with 15 other volunteers together but you will also share the accommodation with 15 German students, currently studying in this place.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

All activities take place under the umbrella of the Uniartcity project which takes place in an old hunting museum on the ground of the Nature Community. Volunteers stay at the old hunting museum with the Uniartcity team, sharing simple accommodation in shared bed rooms and vegan, organic meals. Travel costs are reimbursed according to ESC rules upon presentation of tickets.

Training during the activity

Volunteers receive hands-on training in ecological building (wood, insulation, wall heating, clay) and vegan cooking. In addition, community tools such as sharing circles, deep listening, and group reflection sessions will support social learning, resilience, communication, conflict skills and teamwork. Your tasks will include: Demolishing and building walls, creative room design and furnishing, installing wall heating, working with clay and wood, share cooking and social life in a community environment among other young people. Your learning process will be guided by Uniartcity mentors.

Participant profile

We are looking for motivated young people (20–30) who are open to community life and eager to learn. You enjoy varied tasks — from renovation to cooking and group activities — and bring curiosity rather than prior experience? You are willing to take responsibility, try out new skills, and reflect on yourself in a group setting? You’re willing to sleep together with 8 other people in one room for six weeks? If so, this unique experience of sustainable living and learning in a community of young people, teamwork and personal development will offer you the chance to grow individually while contributing actively to a growing youth movement. We´re looking forward to your application.
