Description
End FGM European Network is looking for one volunteer to join the Communications Department of the Network to highlight and promote the work of community members in ending female genital mutilation and supporting survivors • Mapping communities engaged in combatting FGM. Interviewing community-based activists and synthetising inputs • Assisting with the online promotion of the work of community-based organisations against FGM based in Europe • Supporting the online presence of End FGM EU throughout different media platforms • Contributing to the production and publication of content for the Network’s social media accounts • Supporting the creation and dissemination of the quarterly newsletter and the Network's communication strategy • Preparing specific communications actions for events and campaigns • Supporting the sending of updates and information to Members and Ambassadors through our international communications channel • Providing ideas to raise awareness among youth
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
• A monthly allowance (food, housing). • Travel costs to Brussels (a lump sum depending on the distance to Brussels). • Monthly pocket money. • Local transportation costs in Brussels.
Training during the activity
• On-arrival training with other Solidarity Corps volunteers, plus additional learning and development opportunities with our members. • Internal training provided by End FGM EU covering: communications strategy, intersectional approaches, community engagement approaches, etc.
Participant profile
• Young volunteer between 18-30 years old, living in Europe and originating from an FGM-affected community or with a personal or professional interest in ending FGM. • Good English language skills, both oral and written, French is an asset. • Knowledge of, or interest in, gender equality and gender-based violence issues. • Understanding of the cultural and gender context and sensitivity of FGM, and the ability to engage with the topic in a respectful and informed manner. • Enthusiasm and commitment to meaningful work in human rights advocacy. • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Capacity to work well during busier periods of the calendar in a fast paced environment, with the ability to prioritise tasks while meeting deadlines • Understanding of debates on FGM, violence against women and gender issues. • Aligned with the values of End FGM EU and committed to a decolonial and intersectional approach that recognises structural discrimination, including racism, patriarchy, LGBTIphobia and xenophobia.
