Description
The volunteer will support Friends of the Earth Malta’s Climate, Energy and Mobility Campaign, which addresses climate justice, renewable energy, and sustainable mobility in Malta. Tasks include assisting with research, policy advocacy, public consultations, communications, and community outreach. The volunteer will contribute to projects promoting walking, cycling, public transport, and fossil fuel phase-out, while supporting public events and educational activities. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will live in a shared apartment near FoEM’s office in Floriana, with all accommodation and utility costs fully covered. A monthly allowance will be provided to cover food and daily expenses. Travel to and from Malta will be reimbursed according to ESC rules. Local transport costs required for volunteering activities will be supported. The volunteer will be covered by private Henner insurance throughout the volunteering period.
Training during the activity
Training will be provided through hands-on involvement in campaign activities and regular guidance from the Climate Campaign Coordinator. The volunteer will develop skills in climate policy research, advocacy, communications, and event organisation. Participation in ESC on-arrival and mid-term trainings is included. The volunteer may also attend external workshops, seminars, and Friends of the Earth Europe meetings to strengthen understanding of climate justice and EU climate policy processes.
Participant profile
The participant is a young person with a strong interest in climate justice, renewable energy, or sustainable mobility, and a desire to better understand climate action in a small island context. They are motivated to engage in research, advocacy, and public-facing activities, and are comfortable communicating ideas to different audiences. The participant is organised, open to learning, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. No prior experience in campaigning or policy work is required, but curiosity, commitment to environmental values, and willingness to engage in civic action are important.
