Description
YOU(TH) CAN is an individual European Solidarity Corps volunteering project hosted by the Portuguese Red Cross in Sanguedo, northern Portugal, from March to July 2026. The project welcomes 6 young people (18-30), especially those with fewer opportunities, who are motivated to make a positive impact in a local community. Volunteers will support social, educational and solidarity activities with children, elderly people and vulnerable groups, as well as take part in environmental and animal-care initiatives with partner organisations. Based on non-formal education, the project promotes solidarity, inclusion, intercultural learning and active citizenship. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to develop a personal project linked to their interests and the needs of the community. The hosting organisation provides mentoring, training, accommodation, food allowance, pocket money and linguistic support, ensuring a safe, inclusive and enriching volunteering experience.
Participant profile
We are looking for young people aged 18–30, especially those with fewer opportunities, who are motivated to engage in solidarity and community-based volunteering. Participants should be: - Open-minded, empathetic and interested in social inclusion and intercultural learning - Willing to work with children, elderly people, vulnerable groups and/or animals - Motivated to learn through non-formal education and hands-on experience - Proactive, responsible and ready to participate actively in daily activities - Interested in developing personal initiatives or projects during the mobility No specific qualifications or previous experience are required. Motivation, commitment and willingness to learn are the most important criteria.
