Description

We are looking for two volunteers. Taking part to the daily life of the daily centre, one centre for disable people ( 40 users, 5/6 social workes, one psicologyst, volunteers) young people will take part of the work of social workers and educators in developing activities aiming at social inclusion and growth of disable people and the maintanace of skills and ability in senior people. Tasks of volunteers are: support the employees during the activities such as workshops ( creative, art-lab, art-lab such as drawing, theatre, dance, or sports activity as swimming or playing bocce, basket, music both live music or listening), during welcoming and lunch time ( supporting during lunch in distributing dishes, helping some users, collecting dishes and clearing the room) or training and promotional activity for ESC volunteers ( language course, youthpass or ESC club meetings).

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers are hosted in a fully equipped house with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. The house also has a garden. Volunteers will share a bedroom with another volunteer. Volunteers prepare their own meals for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is provided at midday by the host association La Finestra during activities, as it is an integral part of the activities. The house is 5 minutes’ walk far the associations place.

Training during the activity

On-arrival training is delivered by the Lead Organisation on project goals, local partnerships and the principles of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). Staff provide specific training on working with vulnerable adults and continuous on-the-job support. Volunteers participate in monthly group sessions linked to Youthpass, attend National Agency training sessions (arrival and mid-term), and access ESC online language tools and Italian courses.

Participant profile

All people aged 18 - 30, who have a genuine interest and passion for working with people with disabilities and or elderly people. No professional skills or experience are required; however, it is recommended that volunteers have experience in a similar sector or providing support in personal life in order to have a realistic idea of working with people with disabilities. As we work with vulnerable adults, the volunteers should be kind, patient and compassionate. Hobbies and skills that they are willing to share with the residents, such as art, music, cooking, drama, and sports, that can complement activities.
