Volunteers will be engaged in two main areas: supporting people with disabilities at the daily centres L’Ancora and Socio Lario, and promoting youth volunteering with CSV. They will contribute around 30 hours per week at the centres and about 10 hours per month at CSV, mainly in peer-to-peer activities such as promoting volunteering in schools, supporting youth events and communication initiatives.
At L’Ancora and Socio Lario, volunteers will take part in a wide range of workshops: artistic and craft activities, physical and rehabilitative sessions, music and theatre labs, gardening and cooking workshops, as well as cognitive and occupational activities that foster autonomy, social skills and inclusion. The project promotes solidarity, active participation and European awareness. At the end of the experience, each volunteer will design and implement a personal project.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer is hosted in a fully equipped home in a University residence in Como; it has living room, kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom. The volunteer will share the home with other two volunteers. They will share kitchen and bathroom. The house is in the city centre of Como. The volunteer will have monthly bus ticket to get the hosting headquarter.

Training during the activity

On-arrival training is delivered by the Lead Organisation on project goals, local partnerships and the principles of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). Staff provide specific training on working with vulnerable adults and continuous on-the-job support. Volunteers join monthly group sessions linked to Youthpass, attend National Agency trainings (arrival and mid-term), and access ESC online language tools and Italian courses.

Participant profile

All people aged 18 - 30, who have a genuine interest and passion for working with people with disable people.
No professional skills and experience is required, however it is recommended that volunteer have an experience in similar sector or providing support in personal life in order to have a realistic idea of working with people with disabilities. As we work with vulnerable adults, the volunteers should be kind, patient and compassionate. hobbies and skills that they are willing to share with the residents, such as art, music, cooking, drama, sports that can complement activities.
