Description

Our circus trainer assistants play an integral role at Galway Community Circus. They work closely with our team and support them in the running of our circus program. Their tutor tasks include but are not limited to: co-preparing class schedules contributing to in-class activities participating in camps and outreach workshops assisting lead trainers in various administrative tasks assisting in the maintenance of our circus hall During classes our ESC trainers may interact with toddlers, youth members, adults, and even whole families. Our ESC trainers are encouraged to develop themselves creatively. Work hours include working on a personal project that contributes something meaningful to the Circus community. GCC also offers our trainer assistants the chance to train and learn new circus artist skills. They receive opportunities to perform throughout the program and to lead small productions. Our trainer assistants volunteer 38 hours a week.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

GCC provides a house shared for 4 ESCs. Our house currently has three bedrooms, two single rooms and one shared room with the option for rotating through the year. GCC covers all basic bills such as internet, heating, electricity, and maintenance. Our ESCs receive €11 per day pocket money plus €180 food allowance per month.

Training during the activity

GCC provides training to our volunteers through the ASK training (Assistant Trainers Sharing Knowledge). This is a course developed through two years of collaboration among eleven EU circus schools and funded by erasmus+. It provides a curriculum and guidebook with modules to teach assistant trainers pedagogical methods, theories, and practical skills. ESC trainers will also develop their circus skills as artists through practical experience and by attending the weekly skill development sessions. Trainers will also be given basic admin training.

Participant profile

Applicants must be interested in the (performance) arts. GCC are looking for someone who: can work as part of a team is open to work with people from diverse backgrounds can be flexible around work hours can work under pressure wants to immerse themselves in the world of circus! Ideally, trainer assistant applicants already have skills in circus, gymnastics, theatre, dance, or other performance arts. GCC also encourages people with previous experience in the Youth sector to apply.
