Creating Connections: Volunteers supporting unaccompanied minors at the House of ARSIS

ARSIS KOINONIKI ORGANOSI YPOSTIRIXIS NEON

Thessaloniki, Greece

Description

The "Creating Connections" program at ARSIS's Shelter for Unaccompanied Minors in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki, offers young volunteers a unique opportunity to work closely with vulnerable groups of children in a safe and supportive environment. The facility offers stability, care, and a sense of belonging to children who have experienced difficult living conditions. Volunteers participating in this program will play an important role in strengthening the children emotionally and socially, creating an environment that focuses on well-being, personal development, and creativity. Through non-formal education activities, volunteers will contribute to a framework that encourages self-expression, trust, and self-confidence through creative, experiential workshops that cultivate the development of individual skills, teamwork, language skills, and the acquisition of new knowledge.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteering program should start at around April 20th 2026 and end at around July 20th 2026 (approximately 90 volunteering days), and it will take place at the Reception Centers for Unaccompanied Minors and at the ARSIS House in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki. Accommodation is provided in a fully equipped two bedroom apartment with roommates (it can host up to three volunteers), located close to public transport. In addition, volunteers will receive monthly financial support of €180 as "pocket money," €220 for food, and a monthly unlimited travel card for Thessaloniki's public transport system

Training during the activity

During the program, volunteers will receive training in teaching English, applying methodologies that promote interactive and enjoyable learning, enhancing language skills and self-confidence. They will also receive training in child protection, acquiring tools to support the well-being and safety of children. Ongoing support from ARSIS staff ensures that volunteers are prepared and confident in their role.

Participant profile

We are looking for young people aged 18-30 with educational and artistic skills in the fields of arts, crafts, graffiti, or theater. Ideally, candidates will have experience working with children or vulnerable groups, as well as familiarity with child protection and non-formal education principles. Previous volunteer experience is a significant advantage.
