Volunteer supporting language learning

NGO MONDO

KONGO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION

BOLGATANGA, Ghana

Description

Kongo Community Development Association [KoCDA] is a community-based organization in West Africa, Ghana, specifically, in Kongo in the Upper East region. The Organization seeks an active individual to help drive the skills of French language, particularly among school children and community members in Kongo/Nabdam. This vacancy is an interesting position in a grassroots organisation in rural Africa, aimed at equipping young students with essential French language skills. The Upper East region of Ghana is bordered by two French West African speaking countries, Burkina Faso and Togo. Nonetheless, French is not promoted to facilitate good neighbourliness, trade and business opportunities. The long term objective is to encourage French in the Nabdam district. It aims to bridge cultural gaps, fostering better understanding and stronger relationships with communities in neighbouring countries. The volunteer is to help increase French awareness among students.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be warmly hosted at the NDAHA Guesthouse, where they will enjoy private, lockable rooms equipped with their own bathroom and shower for comfort and security. Electricity and running water are reliably available. Volunteers can prepare their own meals using the shared kitchen facilities, including a refrigerator and kitchen cabinets. Fresh, abundant tropical fruits, vegetables, and local produce are easily accessible. For daily transportation, local options such as minibuses, motorbikes, and tricycles are widely used, offering an authentic immersion into rural Ghanaian life.

Training during the activity

As part of the BRIDGE Project (Building Resilience, Innovation, Development, and Gender Equality), volunteers will work toward empowering vulnerable communities, especially women. Training includes skills development workshops, digital literacy enhancement, participation in UN Women Summits, and facilitating digital training sessions. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and social impact-driven project execution while refining leadership and communication skills.

Participant profile

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about teaching French to non-french speakers eager to make a tangible impact in a grassroots organization in rural Ghana, working closely with students, teachers, and community members to enhance their French speaking skills. The role is well-suited for someone who is interested to teach French, assist French teachers or just to play with the children using everyday basic French conversation words as well as helping to explain their French exercises and homework. Candidates should have a background or interest in teaching French as a language. Experience in teaching French is highly valued. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt to a rural setting and work with diverse groups. The ideal volunteer should be self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a passion for promoting French language acquisition and as a tool for good neighbourliness, cultural exchange and a medium for business.
