Volunteering in a german/english daycare centre in Göttingen

ASC Göttingen von 1846 e.V.

asc Gemeinützige Kinderbetreuungs-GmbH

Göttingen, Germany

Description

ASC Kinderbewegungshaus (subsidiary company of the ASC Göttingen von 1846 e.V.) is a daycare centre currently providing care for approximately 100 children between the ages of 1 and 6 years. Most of the children are cared for on a full day basis and therefore play, learn, rest and eat in the centre. The languages spoken are German and English on account of the Immersion concept employed by the team of English and German speaking staff. The children experience their second language in a playful, multisensory and child appropriate way thus making learning a new language a positive experience. ASC Kinderbewegungshaus has its own gym, gymnastic room and garden providing space for stimulating and challenging learning. The focus of our work lies in supporting the social and emotional development of the children in our care and in encouraging them towards independence and positive self-esteem. Sport, motion and the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle form the framework of all our activities.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

You will be accomodated in a flat with 2 or 3 other international volunteers close by the daycare centre. Each volunteer has his or her seperate room (fully equipped) and you share the living room and the kitchen where you can prepare your own food. The daily infrastructure (supermarkets, sport facilities, doctors, trains and busses, etc.) are all close by and you can go everywhere you need by foot or with a bicycle.

Training during the activity

The ASC will provide a language course and you will attend the regular staff-training sessions and team meetings of the daycare centre throughout the year. We also have the opportunity to get you involved in several sports activities - as a trainer or as a participant.

Participant profile

We are working with young children in both languages (english and german) and are looking for a native or near-native english speaker who wants to experience the german daycare system. Therefore good communication skills, open-mindedness and approachability are very helpful. Of course, you should be happy to work with young children and bring a positive attitude and motivation. Working hours can lie between 7am and 6pm, will however never exceed 8 hours (including breaks) a day. Each volunteer receives an individual duty roster of regular working hours. You will be supporting the staff in every task (for example accompanying the children to swimming- and sportslessons, help with the meals and of course play with the children), and teach everyone a little bit of your country and culture.
