Volunteering in Jönköping municipality (SEP26-AUG27)

Jönköpings kommun

Jönköping, Sweden

Description

Our volunteering project brings an international perspective to local youth work in Jönköping and enriches activities within the Youth Department (Ung Fritid). This will be the 7th time we host international volunteers, building on previous experience and testing new approaches each year. The project takes place in youth centres in Jönköping, a municipality of around 150,000 inhabitants. These centres provide open youth work (öppen fritidsverksamhet), offering safe and inclusive spaces for children and young people aged 10-19 to spend their free time, socialise, and occasionally take part in meaningful activities. We aim to host 5–7 volunteers for 12 months starting 1 September 2026. Volunteers will be placed in 2–3 youth centres, where they will support daily activities, encourage participation, and promote intercultural understanding among young people. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be provided with shared accommodation in Jönköping, with a private room for each person. Travel time to the youth centres may vary between 20–50 minutes depending on placement. Each volunteer will receive a public transport card valid in the Jönköping area. Volunteers will also receive a monthly allowance for food and pocket money, travel cost support based on distance, health insurance, and language learning opportunities. IMPORTANT: Applications are accepted only via: https://esmaker.net/nx2/s.aspx?id=25432c0fa851 (applications via the Youth Portal will not be considered).

Training during the activity

During the project, volunteers will gain insight into daily youth work in Jönköping’s youth centres. They will develop leadership and communication skills, and learn to cooperate with colleagues and young people in group settings. Volunteers will also learn basic Swedish, strengthen their cultural awareness and expression, and take part in on-arrival and mid-term training organised by MUCF.
